Choir tracks

Yes, there is 9am choir rehearsal this Sunday. This rehearsal is important because we will learn a new anthem for Martin Luther King Sunday. It’s “Leave It There” by Charles Albert Tindley (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Albert_Tindley). Tindley (1851 – 1933), the son of a slave, was self-educated and went on to found the largest Methodist congregation serving the African-American community on the East Coast of the United States. He was a minister, lyricist, and composer. Please don’t be put off by the fact it’s a real “old timey tune.” Remember this is the era from which New Orleans jazz originated and the text of this hymn has a message I’m very fond of. One detail: the dotted eighths/sixteenths in this style are performed closer to triplets.
